Loui Lusardo

Introducing Executive Chef Louie "Luigi" Lusardo, a seasoned veteran with over 40 years of experience in the culinary world. Chef Lusardo's journey has taken him through some of Cleveland's most renowned establishments, including The Panama, General Lafayette, Latitude 41 North, and 583 Bistro, among others.⁠

Before acquiring Veranda Bistro & Bar alongside his partner Matthew Heller, Chef Lusardo and I collaborated at the Veranda. Our shared vision and commitment to excellence have been instrumental in shaping the success of our culinary endeavors.

A History of Hospitality

Veranda Bistro & Bar opened in July 2017, but the historic building has been home to restaurants for more than a century.

In 1919, Katie and Ludwig Kreitzer founded Katie Kreuzers Country Place. Known as a Speakeasy during Prohibition, the restaurant was said to have an underground tunnel that reached the county line. The couple later changed the name to Kathe Kreuzer’s Country Place and for more than fifty years it was recognized as a Lorain County Landmark beloved for its fine food, wonderful hospitality, and picturesque setting. During this time Babe Ruth visited the restaurant and stayed at the property.

In 1963, the restaurant was purchased by John W. Miller and the name was changed to Miller’s Country Place. Miller’s Country Place was a popular restaurant known for fine food, generous portions, and famous “sticky buns.”

From 1985 through 2016 the building was occupied by several restaurants including Glass Garden, Inn Cahoots, Fox and Crow, Winking Lizard and Rue 254.

Matt Heller

Matt was born and raised in the close-knit community of Bay Village.  He values and understands the importance of family, community and supporting locally-owned businesses.  Matt’s passion has always been the hospitality industry. At 15 years old his first position at Brio Tuscan Grille taught him valuable lessons in teamwork and instilled the importance of ensuring an exceptional guest experience.

His warm and welcoming personality, commitment to exceptional service and Veranda’s strong service team continues to enhance the dining experience for every guest.

There are many folks who visit once and then become a beloved member of the Veranda family. They continue to enjoy the service, the cozy fireplace in our dining room in the winter and our fabulous patio in the summer.
